Vice-President of the Asiatic Society of Mumbai Meena Vaishampayan, who knew Tikekar since his days at Loksatta and considers him her mentor, said he was a huge asset to the Society as its president from 2007 to 2013. The senior journalist had penned more than 20 books in Marathi and English. ![]() He also launched the Observer Research Foundation’s study centre. Many of his friends recalled his contribution to the Asiatic Society of Mumbai, a charge he took in 2010 where, as President, he painstakingly worked to preserve several thousand books which were rare and dating to the British era.
